Sites Like FetLife: What Each Alternative Actually Replaces
FetLife does four different jobs, and most alternatives replace only one. Which platform fits depends on which job you used it for. Sorted by that, not by rank.
FetLife does four unrelated jobs: local events, a searchable community, kink personals, and a place to work out what you're into. Almost every 'alternative' list ignores this and ranks them as if they compete. Pick by the job you actually used it for.

Most "sites like FetLife" lists rank platforms as though they all compete. They don't. FetLife does four unrelated jobs, and almost every alternative replaces exactly one of them.
That's why swapping platforms so often disappoints: people replace FetLife with something that does a different job well, then conclude the alternative is bad.
So this page is sorted by the job, not by rank.
The four jobs FetLife does
Work out which of these you actually used it for. It is usually one or two, not all four.

If your answer is job 1, read the next section carefully. It is the one where platform-switching usually fails.
Job 1: Local events (the one that doesn't transfer)
This is the honest part most listicles skip.
If FetLife feels dead in your area, that usually means your local scene is quiet, not that FetLife is broken. Event attendance is a property of your city, not of the website. Moving to a new platform does not create people near you.
Two things that do work:
- Munches are usually still listed on FetLife even when the feed looks dead. A munch is a casual meetup in a normal public venue, a pub or coffee shop, with no play involved. It remains the standard on-ramp to almost every local kink scene, and it is the one thing no app has replaced.
- Regional and city-specific groups often outlive the main platform, moving to Discord, Telegram or a local organiser's mailing list. Ask at a munch; that is generally how people find them.
Nothing in the rest of this page replaces job 1. If that was what you wanted, the answer is a local munch, not a different website.
Job 2: Community
FetLife's community is its genuine moat. The volume of writing, groups and long-running discussion is not something a new platform can bootstrap.
Closest in shape: Collarspace has forums and journals alongside its personals, with a large, long-running user base and no paywall. It is text-first in the same way FetLife is.
The tradeoff is real: its published privacy policy states a last-updated date of June 9, 2018, and in roughly 1,630 words of that page it does not use the words delete, remove, erase, retention, GDPR or CCPA. Nothing public commits the site to a way of removing your data. Write anything there as though it is permanent.
Also worth knowing: Reddit hosts large, active kink communities that many people use for exactly the discussion half of FetLife. It has no personals function and no events, so it covers job 2 only, but it covers it well and costs nothing.
Job 3: Personals — finding actual people
This is where the most options exist, and where the differences matter most.
Collarspace — free, text-first, no paywall
The closest structural match to FetLife's personals. Profile search filters on role, orientation, age, location and physical description. No paywall we could find.
Two things to know before joining: the privacy gap described above, and a
quirk with real consequences. The site resolves usernames at the domain root,
and we could not find a path that returned a 404
(tested, 11 September 2026). We requested an invented path,
collarspace.com/zzqqxx9999, and got HTTP 200 with an empty title. So on that
site, "the link opened" proves nothing about whether a profile exists.

Feeld — the largest pool, because it isn't kink-only
Feeld is a connection app rather than a community. It is built for matching, has a modern interface, and its core (profile, browsing, matching, messaging) is free. Its paid Majestic tier is listed on the US App Store at $29.99 for 30 days, $49.99 for 90 days, or $149.99 for a year.
Why people pick it: the user base is far larger than any kink-only platform because it is open to curious and non-monogamous people generally, not only to kinksters.
Why that cuts both ways: a broader pool means more people who are new to this, and fewer who share your vocabulary by default. Its strongest privacy feature, incognito mode, is Majestic-only.
Alt.com — old, deep, and showing it
Alt.com has been running since 1996 and has a correspondingly deep back-catalog of profiles. It also has a documented fake-profile and romance-scam problem, a dated interface, and most useful features behind a paywall. Worth knowing exists; go in with your guard up.
What about the porn aggregators?
Several pages ranking for this search are explicit-content directories that list FetLife alongside tube sites. They are answering a different question. If you want to meet people, those lists are not about that.
Job 4: Working out what you're into
Many people use FetLife's fetish lists as a vocabulary — scrolling to find out what things are called and what exists.
That job is done better by a structured tool than by browsing profiles, and it does not need an account anywhere:

Local activity is the thing that does not transfer between platforms — a quiet FetLife usually means a quiet local scene, not a FetLife problem. Real-world munches are typically listed on FetLife itself even when its feed looks dead, and are usually the fastest route.
